Chase by thegryph Chase by thegryph
Swinging back through my usual general subject matter to semi-historical action.

Not historically accurate, though - I know some of the armor/props would not actually be this way.

Beautiful! Esp. the chestnut horse in the foreground; very lifelike and realistic!

Very dynamic. Love the color scheme and composition in this one. The way you handled the figures in general is virtually flawless. Nicely done!

Fantastic. Not much to critique other than maybe the angle of the first horse makes it difficult to determine the speed at which they are travelling. Awesome overall.

Heh, I can't imagine it mattering for the particular way I paint (hasn't changed much since PS6, really) - plus I'm painting with a Graphire, I doubt that most of the new features do anything without tilt sensitivity.

The armor, yes, although it's not unreasonable. Lord knows we've all seen a lot worse with pretensions of accuracy.

But since I'm a western history sort, I can't pick out anything more. What else? The horse tack?

The stirrups and banner are both totally different from the real Japanese versions - the banner got altered for the sake of the composition/narrative, and I thought the number of people who would think I'd painted the stirrups wrong if I'd done the accurate version would far outweigh the number of people who'd realize they were correct, because (at least as far as my research proved out) the real ones are quite functional, but very weird-looking.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about that. Little c-shaped steps, weren't they?

You're right, people would think you'd gotten it wrong. =D

Uhhhh... no idea. Typically stuff like this is about a 2-2.5 week process, but that includes a lot of time I spent trying to get, well, paid work.

Hehe, I feel your pain. I think it's brilliant, and with a great consistency. I find if I come back to a piece of work even overnight my whole approach changes a lot.
